. . . building quality RVs with your safety in mind

Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association

The Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association has been in existence for over 30 years, and the association works continually to promote all aspects of quality and safety in RVs built by our CRVA member companies. To this end, CRVA works closely with the Canadian Standards Association to develop standards and codes specifically for recreation vehicles.

CRVA is a non-profit organization comprised of leading recreational vehicle manufacturers and companies supplying the components that go into the vehicles. The membership also includes suppliers of services such as marketing and financial organizations specializing in serving the RV industry. The association, comprised of a representative from each member manufacturing company and component supplier, ensures a continuity of professional standards beneficial to the RV industry and, ultimately, to the interests of the consumer.

The CRVA Board of Directors and their sub-committees meet on a regular basis. Their vast experience in the various specialized areas of the recreational vehicle industry ensures that the Association keeps abreast of current trends and technical improvements.

CRVA works hand-in-hand with Transport Canada, the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Branch, Departments of Travel and Tourism, Campground Owners Associations as well as the various Recreational Vehicle Dealers Associations who have their own Canada-wide groups. We draw on this wealth of experience and technical know-how to keep abreast of current trends and technical improvements by constantly reviewing design concepts and manufacturing advances.

The Twin Seals of Excellence

Today, all RVs manufactured by our members carry a certification seal signifying compliance with the CAN/CSA Z240 Standard for Recreational Vehicles which covers four critical areas: propane gas, vehicular, electrical and plumbing. Manufacturers must meet CAN/CSA Z-240 Standard to be members of CRVA. Even manufacturers of components and accessories, including appliances, adhere to the strict guidelines which apply to their products. A CSA representative attends every CRVA meeting and reports on existing codes and possible changes. The association meets to discuss how these CSA changes will impact the RV industry from the manufacturing standpoint to the consumer's point of view.

The certification of the recreational vehicle to the CAN/CSA Z240 Standard for Recreational Vehicles is identified by the certification agency's seal, which usually appears beside the door of the RV, in tandem with the CRVA Seal of Excellence. So when you are purchasing an RV, look for these Twin Seals, your indication of the manufacturer's commitment to quality, safety and excellence.

The agencies, which are recognized by the Standards Council of Canada, that are qualified to inspect and certify RVs to the Standard are CSA International (CSA) and Quality Auditing Institute (QAI).

Park Model Recreational Units are manufactured to meet the CAN/CSA Z-241 Standard. The Standard covers the areas of construction standards, plumbing, propane gas, and electrical and vehicular requirements. Construction standards used in the manufacture of these units comply with the applicable building codes, which allows the local building inspectors to provide immediate approval. The dual seals indicating conformance with the CAN/CSA Z-241 Standard may be located near an entrance door or on or near the electrical panel.
